Green Girls!

Here in North Texas, if you say something about "green" it could be in relation to our local University, UNT! "GO MEAN GREEN!"

However, Hannah and Haylee have gone GREEN in another way. One of their new favorite things to do is ride around the "loop" (the street behind us that goes around our "lake") and collect bottles and cans. Here you can see them with the "booty" they collected tonight:

Hannah's school had a contest last year to collect soda pop tops (the thing you flip up to open a can of soda) and they collected 61 gallons filled with those things to donate to the Ronald McDonald House. I'm not sure what they do with them, but I'm sure it's good! So, this year I've spread the word as far as WA state to help Hannah collect these things and she's collecting them like crazy! One of our friends even brought home a gallon ziploc half full of them from work! Hannah was SO excited! (thanks Larry!). So, whenever we go anywhere, she's keeping an eagle eye out for them. Sometimes when we go to birthday parties, she's trying to take the pop tops off of everyone's cans! It's pretty funny!

The ones we found tonight were at a home site behind us (BTW, for those of you out of state... this house is 3776 sq ft of fun for less than $250K...y'all need to move down here!) and the workers just throw their cans and bottles on the ground. So, the girls get on their bikes and I carry a grocery bag and we go a-collectin'! Here's Hannah on her bike:

(she's almost outgrown that thing!)

Her little sis is doing pretty good on her bike too:

It's been perfect weather here for bike rides in the evening! Hanna thinks she's found another litter-filled lot so we'll be back out there tomorrow night!

That is so awesome. Tell Hannah, I will save any that I have for her. I also think it's great to teach your kids community service at such a young age. I know there are times I ask my daughter to pick up a bottle in the park and she says "It's not mine." I just give her the look and she picks it up, but it's nice that yours go on a mission. Love the pics too.
